Michelle Barrett - Dietitian

Michelle has a passion for supporting people living with a disability, and she uses a strengths-based approach for using nutrition to fuel ability.  This passion extends to the very important, yet highly under researched area of nutrition in Neurodiversity including Autism and ADHD.  Her post-graduate Autism Studies also include managing challenging behaviours.  Her work helps families navigate the minefield of misinformation that currently exists, and brings peace to mealtimes.

Michelle also has a passion for Healthy Ageing and helping older Australians remain independent and stay in their own homes.  Her research in conjunction with the University of the Sunshine Coast, into the influence of diet on muscle strength and physical function in older adults is published in international scientific journals.

Michelle believes that the effects of Gut Health on our quality of life are seriously underestimated.  Gut health affects every aspect of our lives, including our general health and wellbeing, preventing and managing disease, our immune system and our mental health.

She believes there are many ways to improve gut health, including the correct use of the FODMAP Diet for IBS.  What separates Foundation Dietetics from others is that they use not only the FODMAP Elimination Diet, but are also experienced in the additional stages of the FODMAP Reintroduction Challenges and most importantly, FODMAP Personalisation.
